There is a lot of information out there on Climate change and Net 0 or Zero. Especially where the UK is concerned.
Biomass and Power stations
Some people claim that using Biomass in power stations is good for the planet.
There is a problem with this idea. The biomass material is dried wood pellets, which originate in the USA, which means that the trees have been cut down and gone through the processes of cutting and being used for various things, and the remainder being dried and compacted into pellets, thereby creating CO2 in the process.
The biomass is then transported via train or lorry to the coast to be loaded on to a ship, creating more CO2. The ship then brings the biomass to a port in the UK where it is offloaded into lorries and transported to the biomass power stations, creating more CO2.
The question is, has the UK cut CO2 emissions? Yes. The CO2 has been emitted by the USA and the cargo carrier and lorries involved in the transportation. The Government cannot state that they have cut CO2 by having biomass power stations.
Steel Production
The closing down of steel plants in the UK has dropped the CO2 emissions produced by the UK, heading towards that Net 0 or Zero target. However, if reality comes into play, it provides a different side to the argument.
Steel production has moved to India and China, providing jobs to Indians and Chinese. Good for the Indian and Chinese economy, not so good for the CO2 emissions being produced in India or China. Place an order for steel from either country, this take us through the same issues as above, transportation of steel to the port, from the port to the UK by ship and by lorry to the destination. CO2 levels much higher than they would be if the steel had been made in the UK.
Solar Panels

When it comes to Solar, the main manufacturers are in China, this brings the same result of shipping from China to the UK and the rest of the world. The amount of CO2 produced in shipping, are they really worth it? The answer has to be Yes, with a lifespan of 25+ years and with global warming and the increased amount of sun the UK is having could be said to offset the CO2 over time.
Oil and Gas in the North Sea
Would it not be better for the planet to drill for oil and gas in the. North Sea than to import it from the middle east as LNG ? Oh a good deal was done, but the infrastructure was not in place at the time. To bring Oil and Gas from the North sea to the UK by pipe, is cleaner and cheaper thereby lower electricity and gas bills for households and businesses alike. The country should become self sufficient in energy, use of oil and gas until new Nuclear can be constructed it is just common sense.
Climate protestors
There are several groups out there, we know who they are, and they will not gain traction in this article. To see these people wearing gas masks, bio suits, chaining themselves to concrete blocks, is laughable. Why? We are protesting against the use of Oil and the production of concrete, but we will use them in our protests.
The spraying of paint on buildings and monuments, really good idea, then the breaking of windows, hmm that means more CO2 produced to make more windows.
These protestors talk and shout and protest, the one thing they do not do is put forward viable solutions on climate change.
